“Have you ever dated someone who’s completely different than you? It makes me think of Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) where the main character played by Jim Carrey and his love interest discover that even though they are so different from each other they’ve been in a relationship before and they fight to be together again. They were aware of the fact that it’s not easy and that it won’t always be as romantic as they’d wish it to be. I met a person who is completely different from me. At first, I was shocked. I had no clue how I could relate to this person and it’s kind of scary. How can a person be so interesting, but at the same time be like another universe compared to me? It’s challenging because in a way you have to come out of the closet and tell this person who you really are. But sometimes it’s worth to struggle a bit with such a relationship. It also teaches you to appreciate people who are different from you and as a person who used to be quite introvert it’s hard when there are people who don’t do their best to get to know you. But once you find that person who wants to get to know you, even though that person is so different from you. That will be the moment you have to decide to grab that chance and mutually give something of your personality to this other person in order to appreciate that person and feel loved by that person. I did that and at the moment I can say that I’m happy that I decided to take on this challenge because right now I’m still dating this person.”
